Frequently asked questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions to help you choose your motorcycle equipment, helmet or accessory.

  • When should you change the spark plug on your motorcycle?

If your spark plug has reached the end of its life, you'll quickly notice. You'll notice a loss of engine power, and possibly higher fuel consumption. You may also have difficulty starting the engine. This is often one of the first symptoms.

To check the condition of a spark plug, remove the anti-parasite plug and dismantle the spark plug(s). You have one spark plug per cylinder.

The electrodes on your spark plug are wearing. They're eroding. The gap between the electrodes increases and the spark is no longer of good quality. The gap between the two electrodes is specified in your motorcycle's technical manual.

Spark plugs should be replaced between 20,000 and 60,000 km, depending on the motorcycle.

Motorcycle spark plugs: what are they for?

Spark plugs ensure that your motorcycle starts properly, and help you tune and preserve your engine. That's why it's essential to regularly check that your motorcycle spark plugs are in good working order. To maintain your two-wheeler, you need to clean your spark plugs when they become too dirty. A good cleaning, using suitable products, and your motorcycle spark plugs are ready to go again. However, if your spark plugs are too oxidized, worn or show signs of rust or corrosion, you'll need to replace them to avoid damaging your machine. The wear of a motorcycle spark plug is measured by the gap between the electrodes. If the gap is too wide, you'll need to replace the spark plug. At Ixtem Moto, we offer a wide choice of spark plugs compatible with your motorcycle. You'll soon be able to get your engine roaring in complete safety.

When and why change your motorcycle spark plugs?

Are you having trouble starting your vehicle, but your motorcycle batteryis new or charged? Feeling a drop in your motorcycle's performance? Chances are your spark plugs are worn and need changing.

When to change?

Generally speaking, we recommend changing spark plugs every 20,000 km on average. That said, regular maintenance can extend their life somewhat.

Professional advice

The condition of the spark plug is often a sign of good or bad engine tuning. To do this, unscrew the spark plug and look at the lower part at electrode level. Look at the appearance of the base and the distance between the electrodes. This will help you determine what adjustments need to be made. You'll find a wide range of NGK spark plugs compatible with your motorcycle, as well as spark plug wrenches, on our website and in our stores. If in doubt, don't hesitate to ask us for advice. Our team of experts will be delighted to advise you on the best equipment for you.
